Rayna Gillman is an experienced teacher who encourages students to work spontaneously, to ask "what if?" and to experiment, she has taught both nationally and in the U.K.   Her work has been featured in Quilting Arts Magazine, published in several books, and she has been a featured artist on the popular HGTV program, “Simply Quilts.”

In this workshop, Rayna presents a fresh look at surface design as the starting point for an art quilt. You will screen, stamp, and monoprint using textile paints, gelatin, soy wax, and items from the house or hardware store. Working experimentally, you will come ways with your own unique fabric to use in your work.

Then, working quickly and spontaneously using these and other fabrics, you start new work. Rayna leads discussions on how to let the fabric guide you, or “tell you where it wants to go.” Creative exercises, mind mapping, and word play help you follow your intuition and experiment with a number of small studies. You’ll share ideas, brainstorm possibilities, and you will have plenty of studio time to begin new work. Leave class with a way to express your personal vision and loads of exciting ideas.
