This workshop has a dual focus: to generate ideas for personal imagery and then to give those ideas form. Collage-type appliqué construction is taught as a direct way of developing the designs. Laura shows you how embellishment techniques (for example, free-motion thread work, beading, and surface manipulation) can be used to further enhance the surface. You may choose to work on a number of small pieces or to work on one larger piece. Laura leads discussions and demonstrates how size, scale, materials, and construction techniques are used in the process of developing an original and innovative new work. In the evenings, Laura leads discussions on artist career development.

Laura is a working studio artist with an extensive international exhibition record and numerous awards. After completing an M.F.A. in Painting, she began to integrate her love of fabric and thread with her approach to drawing and painting.
