Vessels, Shrines and Reliquaries

Nov. 29 - Dec. 2, 2012

All Levels

Vessel:  Anything that will hold or contain something else.

Shrine:  Anything that commemorates or memorializes a person, place, or event.

Reliquary:  A combination of the two.

For this class, we will concentrate on boxes and buildings, learning ways to make them sturdy and durable, while at the same time putting our fabric collage, embellishment, and beading skills to work. People have been keeping their treasures in beautiful containers for as long as we know.  Students will create a box to hold grandma's jewelry or the baby's hair ribbons or whatever their important talismans might be.  Houses symbolize so many different things, and these little structures can be decorated inside and out.  They can be lighted from within or remain in shadow, plain on the outside and opulent on the inside, whatever suits the student's vision.  One word of warning:  making these small structures can be habit forming.
