The Multi-Layered Art Quilt
March 15 – 18, 2008
Advanced Beginner and up

This class combines basic improvisational crazy quilt background piecing techniques with simple surface design (stamping, silk screening, mark making, and embroidering both by hand and machine) to make a quilt that is unique and powerful. You learn how to build the surface in many layers to create light and shadow effects and create planes within which new patterns can emerge. You begin by making a background and then build upon it, creating perspective and the illusion of depth. By the end of the third day, each student should have a small quilt ready for the final quilting process.

Skill level : Advanced Beginner (must be able to proficiently use a rotary cutter and sewing machine without special instruction from the teacher) through Professional. This class moves at a very rapid pace and it is important that the student be able to keep up.

Materials fee: $20 payable directly to the instructor
