Fabric and Paper Collage

April 10 - 16, 2011

5-Day Workshop

All Levels

This five-day workshop emphasizes the process involved in creating fabric and paper collages. Participants are encouraged to work intuitively using a sewing machine, hand-stitching and acrylic medium, to build shapes, structure and texture into constructed canvases. Students will work with and have demonstrations in painting, mono-printing, silk-screen, copy paper  bonding, plus other techniques. These studies may become completed projects and/or works-in-progress. The class includes demonstrations, group discussions, and individual critiques.

Fran has a BA in Clothing Design from West Virginia University. Her 22+ years in art quilt making have evolved into stitched hard surface paper and fabric collages.

In 1993 she was invited by the British Crafts council to participate in a year-long traveling American Art Quilt exhibition. In 2000 her work was included in Art Quilts: America of the Millennium, an invitational exhibition in Strasbourg, France. She has exhibited in Fiber Arts International, Visions-Quilt San Diego, and Quilt National, winning Quilt National Best of Show in 1997. She has been represented by Jane Sauer’s Thirteen Moons Gallery. Her work was featured in Fiberarts Magazine, Summer 2005.
